Fire: All buildings are on ground level. All rooms are fitted with smoke detectors. Occupants will move out of the buildings through marked fire exits or main access doors to a safe distance from the buildings. In a group situation the persons in charge are issued with written instructions on arrival as to the procedure in the event of a fire. All buildings are equipped with clearly marked internal or external fire extinguishers and/or hose reels. Hydrants are also clearly marked for the fire brigade. Public buildings have illuminated “fire exit” signs. Personal Injury Minimisation: On an annual basis Parks Insurance Pty Ltd. complete a risk management inspection designed to minimise and eliminate potential hazards on all aspects of the buildings and grounds. Any recommendations are taken seriously and implemented. The following were the result of some of those recommendations: * Removal of playground equipment and swings. * Additional signage around pool area and depth markers. * Rotary clothes line arms covered and marked. * All bunk beds fitted with safety rails. (Completed March 2005) Roads and Vehicles: Vehicle speed is controlled with the use of highlighted speed humps and 20 kph signage. We have an ongoing program of repairing and resurfacing roadways as required. Around the property “Shared zone” signage indicates pedestrian activity. Security: We have a resident caretaker on duty from when reception closes in the evening to when it reopens at 7.00am in the morning. Any additional security required is contracted out to an accredited security company. Police Attendance: In the event of theft, malicious damage or any similar incidents the decision to call the police is at the discretion of management or the guest concerned. Lost Property: Where it can be established, the owner is contacted and generally the item is sent COD. Otherwise any lost property is held for a period of three months then given to a charity organisation.
Alcohol & Tobacco: The shop has both liquor and cigarettes for sale and where applicable I.D. must be provided on request.
Building Access: All plant rooms, machinery sheds etc. are kept locked while unattended. Where applicable entrances are marked to restrict access. Rooms: The removal of sharp knives, electrical appliances etc. from the rooms can be carried out prior to arrival if requested. Dangerous Goods Storage: All chemicals, fuels etc. are stored in a lockable shed or padlocked.
Pest Control: Pest control activity is carried out by licensed operators on a regular contracted basis. Trees: Due to the extended drought conditions, many eucalyptus have been subjected to extreme stresses. Consequently an intensive program has been carried out involving the removal and/or pruning of trees on the property under the recommendations of qualified arborists and Environment ACT. Cleaning: All staff employed in the cleaning section have been screened. Critiques: We encourage our guests to report any concerns or problems with critiques. These are placed in each room for the guest to fill out. Lighting: Any public areas are floodlit where necessary and adequate lighting has been installed for room access without being intrusive. Any meals being consumed off premises are provided at the correct temperature on pick-up.The Carotel accepts no responsibility for maintaining those meals in an acceptable condition once they have been collected. Dining Hall: Unauthorised persons or general public are not permitted into the kitchen or adjacent food prep areas. During service the number of persons in the hall at any one time is controlled by floor staff.
